Needs For My Institute:
Our institute has good resources for the students and the teachers also, but some of the needs are;
Curriculum Development

In Pakistan, curriculum is developed by province (state). We have mandatory curriculum to follow in board going classes i.e. 5th, 8th, 9th, 10th and Intermediate classes. However at primary level and middle level we develop our curriculum at institute privately.

Our teacher needs training on curriculum development according to international level.
Staff Development
Teacher’s continuous training and development is always helpful to increase the students learning capacity. So we need to train my staff.
Reference books and Access to digital library
I saw, at Philips’s academy and Kennet High School, a lot of necessary teacher’s resources like computer access and reference access to the students. Our classroom is missing these necessary resources.
Teacher’s Resources
For better teaching practices teacher needs;

  • Specific budget
  • Stationary
  • Computer, internet, printer, scanner and copier
  • Computer literacy
  • Access to reference books and digital library.
Sports
It is said that if you have sound body then you have sound mind. Sports are necessary for the students because they can learn a lot of moral values and kinesthetic education from sports and games and our school is short of such sports facilities.

Some of the facilities need to provide are;

  • Cricket accessories
  • Badminton accessories
  • Table tennis (ping pong) accessories.

Non-Sibi Reflection
Community Services:
  • I campaigned for the Ali Zaib Foundation (working on Hemophilia and Thalassemia) and arranged a donation of Rs. 35000/- for them.
  • I participated in the camping for flood relief and earth quake relief in Pakistan and arranged food and clothing for the affected persons from our village.
  • There was a campaign in the Pakistan run by ITA, (an NGO) working for the better education in Pakistan.  The campaign was to make one million signatures from the community so that they put forward their demand to the Government for the legislation of free education for all up to secondary level.  I participated in this program and made 2000 signatures from my society, students and colleagues.
Why I do these Non-Sibi deeds?
God gave me knowledge, skills, and other blessings, so I always felt pleased to serve His creation.
It is said in our society, “Do good have good”. I do these types of activities so that I may help those who are not able to help themselves.

Reflection on Max Warburg Reflection
It is courageous program under North Eastern University. It provides the students courage to write. In this way they can improve their language skills and composition skills. I like their magazine especially because it is always interactive and motivated activities for the students to publish their writings on international forums.

Elizabeth was a good communicator and she encourage us to make our students to write an essay on courage and they will publish it in their 2013 magazine. It will improve the creative writing skills in our country.
Reflection for Washington DC
Expectation before Trip
Washington DC is the capital of united State and has special place in US. I think there will be lot of fun there. Visit to US cultural and historical places or political places are expected. Other than it, meeting with the US officials or with the officials of US department of State is possible. However there will be a lot of opportunities or cultural learning too.  Therefore we are so excited and waiting for 22nd July to fly for Washington DC.
It is our wish to see white house and the Mr. President as well.
After Tour

“Washington DC is Washington DC” and there is no alternate of it. It is marvelous, beautiful, wonderful, historical, fabulous, awesome, old and modern (and all other words that can be said in the praise of city are included). It was fun visiting Kabab Palace, trolley tour of the town and visiting museums. I enjoyed interactions and sharing at the Senate house ( heart SOB and Russell), Pakistani Embassy, at ADAMS and VOICE OF AMERICA; learning at every corner of the city.
We learn about the history of America by viewing many statues, monuments and meetings.
I especially enjoyed the Smithsonian Air and space museum and saw a lot of models, simulations and memorials of aircrafts and spaceships. It was a type of experiential learning. I also visited the Smithsonian National History museum and learned about the fossils, gems, stuffed models of different animals and marine life fossils. I especially like the paleontology of dinosaurs and all other extinct animals as well.
I visited Alexandria, the old city built in the mid of 18th century. The bottom line is that we are going to miss Washington DC all the time.

                                   on
          Student to Teacher Engagement

Personal Point of view
A general concept about our education system is not so good.  Especially our examination system and the qualification of the teachers and some other problems in education system are yet debatable. The most critical issue is mostly happened in the classrooms where teachers are usually the king and make the students to just memorize the text and create a perception like this……..
pastedGraphic.pdf
What is the reason behind this perception?  Our teacher doesn’t make their lesson interactive and doesn’t add activities in their lesson and just speak out before White board with monotonous tone. As the students are not are not get engaged in class rooms, they get bored and do not take part in learning activities whole heartedly.
pastedGraphic_1.pdf
Student teacher engagement is more important even than the subject knowledge of the teacher. If a teacher doesn’t know the students psyche, he can’t engage his class. Here are some steps to increase the student teacher engagement (STE),

Create an Emotionally Safe Classroom
Create an Intellectually Safe Classroom
Cultivate Your Engagement Meter
Create Appropriate Intermediate Steps
Practice Journal or Blog Writing to Communicate with Students
Create a Culture of Explanation Instead of a Culture of the Right Answer
Teach Self-Awareness About Knowledge
Use Questioning Strategies That Make All Students Think and Answer
Practice Using the Design Process to Increase the Quality of Work
Market Your Projects
(DATA SOURCE: “Ten Steps to Better Student Engagement” FROM
There are various methods to enhance STE as Ernestine G. Riggs and Cheryl R. Gholar write various domains for teachers in “Strategies that promote student engagement (2nd edition). These domains are as follows;

Other than it, the teachers can also use the checklist to observe their student teacher engagement.
